Jonah Roberts was born in 1812 and his brother Noah in 1817 in Llantysilio, son's of William and Mary. I have Noah with his parents on the 1841. By 1851 both men are in Manchester. I've found a Jonah Roberts who appears to have gone into partnership with two others as Slate Merchants - the business was insolvent in 1842 according to the London Gazette! It's possible that Jonah ended up in prison. I'd like to find William and Mary and also Jane Edwards' family if possible.

Interestingly, Jonah and Jane's daughter, also called Jane, married Edward Rowland in 1865 in Chorlton. Edward was the son of David Rowland and Ellen Roberts. Ellen was born in Bryn Heilyn, Rhydlydan. I managed to visit the Farm this year which was very exciting! I wonder if the two Roberts families were related or if it was simply the Welsh sticking together in Manchester!

Are you wanting to go backwards or forwards with William and Mary, Gwen?  I'll get my Llantysilio records out shortly and have a look.
I see that William was a 'not born county' in the 1841?   My Jones family came from Bala and Gwyddelwern originally but settled in Llantysilio..  The problem with Llangollen and Llantysilio is that they were/are both in Denbighshire but the Reg Dist is Corwen, which is in Merionethshire.

Hi again Gwen  :)

Only Noah showing in the parish records so far. Nothing in the non-conformist records either(Blackwell Index).

I assume you've found William and Mary in Llantysilio in 1851 -

Pentre Ucha no 1 HO107/2509/3601/11
William Roberts, 76, Independant, b. Llanllyfni, Merioneth Caernarfonshire
Mary, 75, wife, b. Denbighshire.

Will look some more!

Aaargh....

There are a couple of William Roberts bpt in Llanllyfni around the correct time ~

5 April 1775 to John (labourer) and Margaret, Plas du
13 Oct 1774 to William (labourer) and Elin, Llwyndu

Do you know of any other children besides Jonah and Noah?

I've also found a burial in Llangollen, January 1871 for a Mary Roberts, aged 95, but not sure as address is given as Unicorn and very little to go on. Roberts is a pretty common surname in those parts, as I know to my cost - my tree is riddled with Roberts, Jones and Parry!

I went to school in Llangollen but haven't heard of Unicorn  ???

Hi Gadget,no,I'd not seen that 51 census - I'll get it out when I get home. As regard to other children, I only found the 2 but hadn't looked further.
