Hello, can someone please assist with information regarding the above, Samuel died in 1894 in Liverpool New South Wales Australia.  He was born in 1887, Parramatta, NSW.  He was only aged 7 years at the time of his death.  I am curious to know why there was an inquest or if there are any news articles, that I haven't been able to find.  Hope you can help.  Thank you.

Not sure what news items you have seen - there is this on Trove:

I think an inquest can be held if there was reason to suspect neglect was a contributing cause of death, perhaps that was involved in this case? Hard to say why when this did appear an accident, sad story.

There are a few other (briefer) articles too:

Yes, in NSW suspicious deaths were referred to the Police.   So, before a funeral director could bury, he needed to obtain permission to bury.  A Coroner could give that permission, or a Doctor could certify cause of death and thereby release a body to a funeral director.    So, without a doctor certifying cause of death, there would be police magistrate and/or coroner involvement.

The NSW BDM death cert or an official transcription would provide the details.

Children's death certificates can contain very sad details.  :(
