Sailor in Dublin
« on: Friday 30 September 16 10:37 BST (UK) »
I found the birth of my great grandmother's sister on the Historic Civil Records which have recently become available.
She was born Adelaide Road, Dublin in 1865, her father Francis Cotter was a sailor.
The last ship I know he was on was the Gladiator, in 1860 he volunteered to complete for pension but I think his time was up in 1864. He was born in Union Hall c1829, married in Plymouth, Devon and had 3 children in that area so I am wondering why he might have taken is family to Dublin, they left the area before 1869 when his next child was born.
I wondered if anyone could help me will any suggestions?

Thank you both for your help.
I had not noticed that Sarah Miller appeared on the other entries, also for the information link.
Is the Findmypast birth an actual record at the time of the birth? I will have a look for myself when I go to the library where we have free access but that will not be this week, I am asking because 2 of his ship's records state he was born September 1829 (no day given), the other I have gives a date in 1832 it is the same person, the list of previous ships prove this.
The family on the 1901 census could be related, but Lydia was born Adelaide Road, Dublin.
Thank you again for helping.
