William is showing as the same age on the following census so it looks as though the 1901 had his age wrong - transcript shows what is written.

Another newspaper report says George Walker Moseley was born in Leeds
Birth March qtr 1925
George W Moseley
Mothers maiden name  Walker
Leeds    9b   592

From his obituary in The Telegraph

If George Walker Moseley was at High School in Glasgow then maybe that is why I can't see the family in England/Wales prior to WW2.  ???

There is another Moseley Walker marriage in Leeds Dec qtr 1932 which could account for other Moseley/Walker births there

Glasgow Herald 21 February 1939
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ilw/

Glasgow Post Office Appointment
Mr William Moseley, Traffic Superintendent of Post Office Telephones in Glasgow, has been promoted as service & sales Manager, Glasgow Telephone area in succession to Mr Robert Teasdale who becomes Telephone Manager of the Scotland west area from April 1.

Mr Moseley began his post office career in his home town of Liverpool in 1912 and saw service in Leeds and Birmingham before coming to Glasgow in 1936
......

There is a possible birth in Birmingham Moseley mmn Walker in September qtr 1936
You can probably ignore that one as he died in 1962 same area as birth

Thank you all for your help and interest. I am sure you all know the feeling of "where do I look next?".
That is where I ended up, and asked for help.

Some of the suggestions and links I had not thought of :-[ :'(, so will follow them up with great interest.

Scouse Boy, that is one of the things I could not find, why he was awarded the MBE. I also could not find anything regarding the war.

KG, I simply had not thought of the London Gazette, oops :-[, so will follow that up, and the 1939 Register

Rosie, I had not thought about working abroad.

Garsonite, I have a copy of the 1901 census, and it does show age as 19, but from the way it is written, seems to have been added in pencil.

Rosie, I had a look at Independant information, but could not see much about William. I had not realised that George had been knighted until then. He is the highest ranked person in the whole of the extended family  :o  I will have to find the Telegraph record.

Mair, thank you very much for that link.

Rosie, I had not looked at the electoral registers, as I could only find London, so will need to look elsewhere to find the ones you have found. I had not thought to check Ancestry re the Appointment books :-[ I was not aware they were there.

Again, many thanks for your help and interest. I will have to look further next time, and take close note of all the links and tips you all have suggested.

A very chastened A Chesters.
