Birth certificate
« on: Sunday 02 October 16 07:31 BST (UK) »
Attempting to find information regarding my birth mother, Removed Beckett who lived on Staythorpe Road early 1950s. Have got to the stage of my life where this is so very important to me and would be so greatfull for any information at all. My birth name was Peter Howard Beckett but have been known as Alan Howard Pott for the last 64 years.
Thank you.

The parish of Averham came under the Registration District of Southwell.

Utilising FreeBMD (.org.uk) there is a possible marriage:
December qtr 1953
Southwell RD     vol 3c, page 803

I'll leave you to find the names - can't mention them, as they may still be living.

Hi Alan

As a new member here you may not have discovered the amount of posts here where people ask for help looking for birth relatives.

It looks as if you have received information that has been helpful for you.

I would however urge caution if the lady you seek is still alive and you want to make contact with her or her family.

At the time of your adoption, the subject was hugely sensitive as to the reason for your adoption and for the family adopting you.

You will also find topics here where people tried to make contact but they were rebuffed.

I suggest that you take some time to think about your action plan.

If you haven't done so, get a copy of your adoption file from the GRO, but you might have this and think about using an intermediary service to make an approach on your behalf.

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/accessing-your-birth-records

This is one of many and I have no affiliation to it

http://www.adoptionservicesforadults.org.uk/

and guidance from the Govt website

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/intermediary-agencies

While writing a letter directly may seem like a good idea, the lady at the other end certainly won't be expecting it and you won't know how she will react.

Good luck.

Yes, good advice from dawn, as yet I think you probably only have basic info but something to build on perhaps.

My fathers name is not on my original certificate. Does this mean that I have NO chance of ever finding out who it was...Am going back to 1952. Many thanks.

No chance from the certificate I'm afraid. Is there anyone left you could ask to see if they have any clues?
