Robert Chalmers & Janet Bartholomew
« on: Tuesday 04 October 16 10:36 BST (UK) »
Good Morning

I am wondering (hoping) that someone may be able to help with Robert Chalmers who married Janet Bartholomew in Uphall (Strathbrock) 31 October 1782.
They had the following children...
John Chalmers 26 July 1784 Ratho
John Chalmers 11 Oct  1786 unknown if Ratho or Currie
Christian Chalmers 22 Apr 1789 Currie marries Hugh McKay 14 Mar 1795 Edinburgh
Jannet Chalmers 1 Apr 1792 Currie
Thomas Chalmers 18 Oct 1794 Currie
Robert Chalmers 18 Oct 1794 Currie marries Elizabeth Gibson 26 Nov 1819 Currie
George Chalmers 5 Jun 1802 Currie
Jean Chalmers 5 Jun 1802 Currie

I would love to know more about any of the above, especially the parents of Robert and Janet.

Many Thanks in advance
Regards
Moo

Just noting , is it likely that someone born 1789 married in 1795 ?

Hello
I have found the Marriage Banns for Hugh McKay and Christian Chalmers, but I cannot read what is written for her fathers occupation before the word servant, I am hoping someone would be able to shed some light.

Moo, the word before I think reads Gentleman's (servant).

Monica  :)

Added: Sorry, moo. That is occupation is for Hugh McKay isn't it.

Could Robert Chalmers be a farmer's servant?

I'm not sure Citizen Smith, on his sons death certificate in 1869, Roberts occupation was given as a Toll Keeper - whatever that was, on the marriage ban 1819 for his son there was no mention of him.

The more I look at it, the less convinced I am about "farmer's". Where was The Abbey?
