George Coupar (Cowper/Couper/Cooper) about 1803 - where was he born?
« on: Tuesday 04 October 16 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,
George Coupar (or alternative spellings) married Margaret Doig (Doeg) on 30 April 1825 at Coupar Angus.  The marriage record has no parent names on it.  The 1841 Census indicates he was 39 and born in the parish (Angus), so born about 1802.  One of his female children had a middle name of Maxwell which may be a parent or grandparents surname as this family often used surnames as middle names.

So far I haven't been able to establish his parents. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts, it would be appreciated.

Thank you
Judy

Rosie,

Only if the informant knew those details.

My 3x g g/father's death details were given by his daughter who knew his father's name but only knew his mother's forename, not her maiden name  ::)

Hi Rosie,

Thank you for the idea. Unfortunately, he died in 1847 in Pitempton so no parents names were listed.

Regards
Judy

The 1841 Census indicates he was 39 and born in the parish (Angus)

No. The question in 1841 is whether the person was born in the same county, not the same parish.

Also Coupar Angus is one of those parishes that is partly in one county and partly in another. In this case part of the parish is in Angus and part of it is in Perthshire.

So he could have been born anywhere in Perthshire or Angus.

The 1841 census was taken on the night of 6/7 June. If his age is accurate (you cannot rely on this, of course), he would have been born between 7 June 1801 and 6 June 1802.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Judypur I think I may be descended from George from his son William who was aged two on the 1841 census.  Unless you know otherwise.... Do you have any further info on William later in life?
