Occupants of 24 Lee Road, Aldeburgh, 1946.
« on: Wednesday 05 October 16 00:52 BST (UK) »
Hello,

In her latter years, Sarah Alice GALBRAITH (born New Zealand 1863) resided at 24 Lee Road, Aldeburgh in Suffolk. A spinster, she had lived for much of her life near her two sisters in Surrey, one of whom was still alive and living there when she, Sarah, died in September 1946 at the East Suffolk & Ipswich Hospital.

I am wondering why she moved to Suffolk.

Is it possible to find out if Sarah lived with other people in Lee Road?

Minniehaha.

Hi Minniehaha,

Your best bet is to request a Look-up on the Electoral Rolls for Aldeburgh, Suffolk.

Here's a Link telling you more about them from The National Archives at Kew:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/electoral-registration/

One problem is that I don't think that Electoral Rolls were compiled during WW2, - but if you're looking at 1946 you might just be lucky. Emailing the Suffolk Archives may give you more info:

You could also try emailing Aldeburgh Public Library: https://www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/libraries/aldeburgh-library/

Good Luck!
Romilly.

The nearest directory I have at home is for 1937 and I cannot find anything to help you. If Sarah moved from Surrey to Aldeburgh it may have been for health reasons, she may have been advised to live near to the sea. In 1937 Lee Road is a residential area.

Hello Minniehaha

A local directory for 1963-4 lists A. KNIGHTS at 24 Lee Road, Aldeburgh.

I don't think we're allowed to give details from the 1939 National Register here but I'd certainly recommend an address search at Findmypast.
