Russia, unknown birthplace Eliasburg

My greatgrandfather was born in Eliasburg, South Russia, back in 1872. Had no success in finding the exact loaction of this place. Did searches in many databases and found birth records mentioning this place but location is still unknown.

Does this place sound familiar to somebody?

Do you know the general area of where the village was?  What religion was your ancestor?  It sounds like a nickname rather than an official name.  Most villages with "Eli" are short for some variation of Elisabeth-something. I have a map of close to 4000 villages with their locations, and Eliasburg is not in any of my research.  Would like very much to find this for you and others.

The full name of the person you are looking for is needed to make any headway on this post.plus any other snippets of information you may have on him.
A coincidence perhaps but,the famous Russian musical director of 1942 fame Karl Eliasberg was born in Minsk Belarus 10 June 1907.Just a thought,Brionne.
