J Steele,Musselburgh
« on: Thursday 06 October 16 09:36 BST (UK) »
I am not sure whether I am on the right forum for Musselburgh N B (thinking the N B is North Berwick).

Would like any information on a Mr J STEELE living at 34 Beach Lane, Musselburgh N.B. He was a Mine Pumper, 29 years of age, Scottish. I have looked on Scotland's People for a birth and also the Valuation rolls, with no luck.

He bought a 3rd class ticket  to Melbourne, on the ship ORAMA  - 27 March 1926.

ADD       The year should be 1925

Hi Cupcake ,

Musselburgh is in Midlothian.

I've seen N.B. meaning North Britain in some documents.

ev,

Thank you for keeping me right and the NB - North Britain. I'll go to the Midlothian Forum.

Will also have another look on Scotlands People.

Hi,
Musselburgh was Midlothian until regions changed in the 1970's since then it has come under

East Lothian.

There is a Beach Lane in Musselburgh  near the harbour at Fisherrow

Hi Cupcake,

It's always easier for us to work with dates although ages accompanying events is also useful.

When was Mr J Steele 29 yrs old (what year)?

What was his age/yr of birth when travelling to Melbourne in 1925?

Do you have any other info. to help such as what "J" stands for?

Do you know where he was going (name/address/relationship)?

He may be recorded as Steel?

 Hi Rosinish

I realise I have made a mistake giving the year 1926 - should be 7 March 1925.

From the information on his address he was 29 years old in 1925 when he sailed for Melbourne.

I have no information what the "J" stands for. Could be John but, I have been looking for a Jack James Steele and could be wrong.

As far as I know he was going to Norman Thomas, Wanburra, Victoria.

Yes, he may be recorded as Steel.
