Dickey Mead Midsomer Norton
« on: Friday 07 October 16 13:51 BST (UK) »
My grandfather, who lived in Midsomer Norton, used to refer to a part of the town as Dickey Mead.
Does anyone know where this was or the derivation of the name?

Could it be the name of a person that lived there?

Could it have been Thicket Mead?

Looking at this background report to a planning application page 20 (and maps p 29/30)
( http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ims/  ) the 1841 Midsomer Norton Tithe map identifies a field as  Dicky Mead Paddock  with a red line plan showing it next to the Thicket Mead that Jamjar mentioned (although not actually named on the plan!)

Thanks for these replies. I often wondered about granfy and his "odd  sounding sayings" but seems as though there was a lot of truth in this one.
Still wonder about the derivation.

Thanks again.
