Missing Carews!
« on: Friday 07 October 16 19:45 BST (UK) »
Going round and round in circles looking for a branch of the Carew family and could certainly use some help!

Wilfred James Carew (21 Aug.1885 Bay Bulls, St. John, Nfld-3 Nov.1937 Burrillville, RI?) m. (his cousin?) Anna Geran (d.1922)
Birth- Wilfred Jos. Carey, parents Martin Carey & Emilia Molony: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QK9T-VXDS
1900 Census- Lincoln St., Millville Village, Blackstone Township, Worcester, Mass.:  Martin Carey, Mar.1856, Nfld, to US 1887, rubber worker; wife Amelia Carey, Apr.1863, Nfld, 10 ch./4 liv., to US 1889; ... son J. Wilfred Carey, Aug.1885, Nfld, to US 1889, at school; ... https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9Y1-KRB
   WWI draft reg.: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZF8-K9M
1923 New Haven, Conn. Directory: Wilfred J. Carew (Ann), home  12 Cassius, trav auditor. 1924- same. 1926- Ann not listed.
Death: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F8CD-393
Two children-
1. Frederick Carew (d.1962)
2. Geraldine M. Carew (8 Sept.1916 New Haven, CT-9 Dec.1991 Warwick, RI) m.(2 Oct. 1936 Suffolk Co., Mass.) David Thomas Bouressa (16 June 1914 Providence, RI-17 July 1992 Warwick, RI).

Note: blue bits from online trees that do contain errors and may not be correct.
Wilfred's birth listed sometimes as 1887. The surname was both Carey or Carew. Spelling of Anna's surname Guran, Geran, Gearin, etc. (Wilfred's grandmother was Mary Ann Gearin so they could have been cousins).

What I can't find is-
Wilfred Carew in 1910 census
Wilfred Carew, wife Anna, daughter Geraldine & son Frederick in 1920 census thanks shellyesq
Wilfred Carew, wife Anna (she might have died by then), daughter Geraldine & son Frederick in 1930 census (in 1935 Geraldine is living in R.I.)
Frederick Carew in 1940 census or later
Geraldine & David Bouressa in 1940 census thanks willsy

Any help appreciated

Thanks so much for that (and so quickly)- I honestly did search for them before I posted my request  :)

Even more surprising is the 1940 address- I know it well as I lived around the corner in the early 1980s!

The CT marriage index lists Ann's last name as Carew.   ???  http://ctstatelibrary.org/marriage-records/

The 1919 & 1920 New Haven city directories have Wilfred at the 12 Cassius address, but no mention of Ann.

Thanks for finding that marriage, shellyesq. Perhaps Ann was Wilfred's cousin on father's side rather than Gearin.

From the directory entries you found, Sandra, sounds as though Wilfred should still be in Providence area in 1910 census  :-\

The 1920 census has the Carews at 12 Cassius St., but Wilfred is transcribed as Melford Crarew  ::)

There are other Carews at 28 Perry, Providence in the 1910 census, but no Wilfred.  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MP65-6MV
