Very strange - FreeBMD has no William Hook death registrations in March quarter 1866, anywhere  :o
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Ah but the newspaper report of the claimant Caroline Hook does not state husband's name.

There was a Thomas Hook/Caroline Amys marriage in Dec 1856 in St Faiths & this death
Deaths Mar 1866
HOOK    Thomas    29    St. Martin    1a   294

Sorry for the red herring  :-[

Always good to narrow the odds  :)

From FreeBMD - September 1837 - December 1860 - there are 6 instances where William Hook and "Caroline" appear on the same page.  None of them jump out at me  :o

March quarter 1838 - Bristol
June quarter 1844 - Wolverhampton
March quarter 1846 - Rye
September quarter 1848 - Petworth
June quarter 1849 - Bromley
September quarter 1851 - Warwick

Extend to December 1865 and add:
June quarter 1862 - Keynsham

Yes, if Caroline was born in Gloucestershire & first known children in Suffolk from 1858, none of those marriages seem obvious.
