William Thomas Chapman Fairey 1872
« on: Tuesday 11 October 16 10:02 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the father of William Thomas Chapman Fairey, birth registered Woburn Sept Q 1872.  You might have thought that his mother's surname was Chapman, but the only Fairey/Chapman marriage I have found so far is between Catherine Fairey and Jacob Chapman in Woburn June Q 1865,  a sister of William's father, maybe.  Her birth is registered in Bedford Sept Q 1841.  William's son was also called William, so maybe that's a clue?

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks, KGarrard. That was an almost immediate reply!

So William was illegitimate, but who thinks that Thomas Chapman was his father, then?  Oh dear, another line of searching meets a brick wall, but I'll see where Mary leads me.  Possibly Mary b Mar Q 1863 Bedford.

How sad.  Mary doesn't seem to have had much luck.  I knew of the move to Yorkshire, where father and son William were both colliers.  Son William married a Lancashire lass in 1919, which is where I started looking at this family.  I have a large family of Lancastrian Faireys, but hadn't met this line before.

Thanks again, KGarrard.

Mary marries Arthur Wright in September qtr 1882.

On the 1891 census, William is described as "son-in-law" to Arthur :-\
But this is just an old-fashioned way of saying Step-son ;D

How odd!

Yesterday I was looking through the Oxfordshire parish registers which have recently come online, and found a thread which I started on the Gloucs board back in 2010 relating to some Hodgkins research I was doing, to which Gill very kindly helped me out, and I thought, hmmm I haven't come across Gill recently.

What a coincidence that you should have just posted on the Beds board!

Good to catch up again Gill, even though I was too slow to help you.

David

Hello, David!  It's good to be in touch again.  How's life in sunny France?

As you can see, I'm still on the trail of the Faireys and following up on chance discoveries.  I think maybe this is one of Dale's (Marlene's) lines, but have not been in touch with her lately.  Thanks for all your help along the way, too.

Best regards
Gill
