Where did you find the information that mary was b Llanharry??

1881 census gives her p.o.b. as Glamorgan (no other details)
by 1891 census Mary had died and son llewellyn (age 10mths in 1881) was in Glos County Lunatic Asylum -
1891Tom Yemm is a widower and 5 of the children are living with him

There is a tree on A*****y which gives Mary's p.o.b. as Llanharry and her parents as David Hopkin and Ann Davies
Possibility as Tom and Mary's eldest son was named David
I don't know how well sourced the tree is - parish registers should give details of father and occupation and witnesses are sometimes relatives - but if you only have the marriage registration then that gives a 3 month period when they could have married and at any Church/chapel/ register office in the Cardiff registration district -which coud be a difficult search
Marriage certs can be purchased online from GRO at a cost of under £10 - sometimes "key" certificates are needed to be more certain the correct family is being followed

On 1861 census as far as i remember There is a Davies listed as a Grandparent on one of the censuses  so this sounds right
Thanks

My response from the other thread -

A tree on Ancestry has Mary Hopkins (born 1852 Llanharry) as the daughter of David Hopkins and Ann Davis - no date of marriage given.

1861 Census listed on the tree RG9 4076 folio 20 page 10.  Mary can be found next door to David and Ann as granddaughter.

Obviously the information requires verification.

what do you mean by "marriage register"?

I am having difficulty finding Mary Hopkins b Llanharry - the only one I have found so far is in 1871 census - mary Hopkins age 17 b llanharry occ Cook (in household of a Clergyman- no family with her

Duplicate request, see:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=757396.

Just to underline this

We have two threads running alongside each other going over the same ground.

You really need a copy of that marriage cert to ascertain Mary's father's name before you can progress with any certainty. The census with father David has been found on both threads, but unless you have the marriage cert to confirm that "your" Mary Hopkins had a father called David, then you could be looking at the wrong Mary Hopkins. It isn't exactly an unusual name - and , as has also been pointed out on both threads (!) there is no accurate place of birth for her beyond "Glamorganshire" on 1881 and she has died by 1891.

Darren:  there is one definitive way to solve part of this mystery :o

The marriage certificate for Thom Yemm and Mary will name the fathers - obtain it from GRO at a cost of £9.25.
