Dunfermline Family of James Hepburn Wilson & Bridget Hoggan
« on: Tuesday 11 October 16 20:24 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone

I am looking for information on the following please,

James Hepburn born 1840 Dunfermline, son of John Wilson and Catherine Hepburn. James married Bridget Hoggan in July 1871 in Grieve St Dunfermline. Bridget was born 1852 and is the daughter of Thomas Hoggan and Anne Haige or Heggie.

They had the following children

John Wilson born 1872 Grieve St Dunfermline, who married Janet Galloway
Thomas Wilson born 1875 Grieve St Dunfermline
Robert Wilson born 1880
James Wilson born 1887
Annie Wilson born 1890
Catherine Wilson 1893

James Hepburn Wilson died 1940 and Bridget died 1932.

Any help with this family would be most appreciated, they have been a large brick wall for a long time.

Regards
Moo

Can be discounted as probate names his father as Alexander

A marriage for James Wilson to:

DONALDSON CECILIA S
1911
424/ 2
Dunfermline

If this is the correct person, they moved to Lancashire before 1911 census.

Hello,

Bridget's father, Thomas Hoggan, wasn't with the family on the1871 Census. The transcription doesn't say whether Ann is a widow or not, but there is a death for a Thomas Hoggan age 46yrs. in 1870 at Dunfermline.
       1881. 24 Pittencrieff St., Dunfermline.
      Ann  Hoggan 56.
John      "       27 Beamer Linen Factory.
     Elizabeth "     14 Linen Weaver.
Thomas  "      13 All born Dunfermline.

       1891. 10 Pittencrieff St., Dunfermline.
     Robert Cunningham 27 Cloth Beetler.
     Betsy            "          24.
     Robert          "            5.
     Thomas        "            3.
Ann  Hoggan            65 Mother-in-Law. All born Dunfermline.

       1901. 10a Pittencrieff St., Dunfermline.
Betsy Cunningham 24? Weaver, Linen Factory. (Age may be transcription error for 34)
Robert         "          15  Hair Dresser Apprentice.
     Thomas       "          13  Watchmaker Apprentice.
     Ann  Hoggan           75  Mother.
(Betsy Morn Hoggan born 1st May 1866 at Dunfermline. Dau of Thomas Hoggan & Ann Heggie. Likely marriage: Betsy Hoggan & Robert Cunningham, 28th Aug,1885 at Dunfermline.)
The new ScotlandsPeople website is worse than useless. Can no longer search for the death of a married woman using married name & maiden name together. Surnames Hoggan & Heggie are not all that common in Fife & Dunfermline not all that big so searched for Ann Hoggan then Ann Heggie separately. There were 3 deaths for name Ann Hoggan in Dunfermline between 1901 & 1925 and only 1 for Ann Heggie which was a perfect match, age, year & ref no. to one of the Ann Hoggan deaths. (Died 1908, age 82yrs. Ref No: 424/ 179)

               Regards,     Dod.
