Teresa Furbey - who was she
« on: Tuesday 11 October 16 22:30 BST (UK) »
Looking to find more on this lady - she is around in 1901 age 37 wife of George H with a string of children but I can't find much more on her save a likely death in 1939 Swindon.

Can't find the family in 1891 or Teresa prior to marriage - possible marriage record in Lambeth 1884 her surname is O'Callahan.

In 1881 George is a lodger in Swindon - tin man - so I don't quite know where a marriage in Lambeth comes in.

1901 has

George H Furbey 39 born Bath
Teresa 37 born Bristol
Emily 16
George H 15
Margaret 13
Ernest 11
Winifred 9
Daisy 7
May 3
Nellie 2

All children born Wilts but I don't need anything on those thank you

Hi, you say that you don't need anything on the children, do you have any of their birth certificates to confirm Teresa's maiden name?

Hi
No I don't have any certificates.  She wasn't a relation.

I think that George H Furbey was actually Henry George Furbey (from the last census) and that 1884 marriage date fits!

That's a good find thank you, I thought there must be an Irish connection with the name.

Will see if her birth is mis spelt as I couldn't find one before.

Reason I am interested in her is from my uncles birth in 1930,  Swindon local studies say she was the head of the household and I don't know why.

Far as the family knew it was Mum, Dad and his 2 older brothers living there.

There is a possibility the houses were renumbered (local studies are investigating) but if Teresa was something to do with the family I'd like to know.

I can't see any O'Callahan births around then, perhaps she wasn't registered? Possibly they were Catholic and she was baptised and they thought that was the same.

She isn't with parents in 1881, so perhaps she was a servant in London then, as you say strange why they married there. Possibly she was Catholic, he wasn't?
