W.P. Church , Coatbridge
« on: Wednesday 12 October 16 09:40 BST (UK) »
A marriage in 1853 Old Monkland or Coatbridge, both people at Gartsherrie in this parish by the Rev. William Stirling, Minister of W.P. Church, Coatbridge. Anyone know what W.P. stands for? Thanks

According to FreeCEN there's a William Stirling, United Presbyterian Minister, Coatbridge, in New Dundyvan, Old Monkland, in the 1851 census. Could WP be a misreading of UP?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

If you are interested - William Stirling of Dunbeth Relief Church (later United Presbyterian) is listed in the Index of Scottish Presbyterian ministers: http://ecclegen.com/general-index-s2/#Stirling,%20John

A link there will take you to more information about him and his congregation.
