« on: Thursday 13 October 16 00:37 BST (UK) »
A Death Notice in a newspaper of 1846, gave the deceased as 'of Broadgates, Halifax'

Can anyone tell me whereabouts in Halifax this was/is?

Thanks, Eric.

Have you found that person on the 1841 census?  Where were they living at that time?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

A Google search reveals that Broadgate, in Halifax, has a postcode of HX4 9HZ.

Looks to be a house (or houses) on Staniland Road?

According to Malcolm Bull's Calderdale Companion, there is a Broadgates in Sowerby Bridge - also known as Broad Yattes, Underbank - a house recorded in 1454 when owned by Robert Waterhouse.  There is a list of owners.  Later converted into a church.

I might be very wrong on this, KG, but I think the Holywell Green Broadgate may possibly be new development.  :-\ :-\  I don't think it's near (well not too far, I suppose) the 1841 census location.

Burnley Road, Rochdale Road, Pye Nest and Willow Hall Mills are the clues, I think  :-\

Looking again at the 1841 census entries - Bolton Brow and Under Bank are given as addresses, which ties in with the map location.  :)
