Isabella Mary Brazier
« on: Saturday 15 October 16 02:35 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am trying to track down what happend to one of my ancestors. She was born to Charles Brazier 1832-1894 and Isabella Webb 1926-1914. in 1865.

I know that she married George Gibson in Pretoria South Africa, as there is an index but am trying to find out where they lived and died , I have not been able to find a South Africa passenger list as this would confirm where they ended up.

This is the marriage record? Any help appreciated! Thanks.  :)

George   GIBSON   Isabella Mary BRAZIER   2/14/1891   TVL, Pretoria, St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Marriages 1871-1955

Well here's a funny thing - it would appear that the marriage did not take place. The entry in the St Alban's marriage register is not signed by either party, and has been crossed out. https://goo.gl/yo9Ou1

There's a death in Pretoria: Isabella Brazier died 12 August 1892, aged 28. Born Kent.

There's an estate record in the Transvaal archives

Familysearch has the estate file image

What a sad tale .Wonder if she had contracted some horrible illness that was to prove fatal within 18 months and that was why the marriage didn't take place as planned. :(

In the estate file (just one page !) her occupation (beroep) is given as "Barmaid" if I read it correctly. Does anyone read it differently?

Bearing in mind the record is written in Afrikaans....
Barmaid is written and spelt the same in Afrikaans and  English ,so reckon you are correct. ;D
