Hallmark & dathai,

Thanks so much for your help. I still have been unable to find a birth record for Mary Moore which would help me verify who the wife of John Moore was. A death record for Isabella Elliott Moore would also be helpful. John Moore was a widower as of the 1901 census:

As my subscription to RootsIreland runs out tomorrow I had a quick look for you to see what I could find...have to make the most of it!!

There was a female birth to John Moore and Isabella Elliott, Roshine, (same birth place as Charles and same parents) on 23/12/1867 but no Christian name given, unfortunately. I found the civil record for this female and the entry is identical to that of Charles, unfortunately my skills don't allow me to copy the link! In the absence of any other information I would say this is Mary. I also noticed on the census returns that both Charles and Mary have a daughter Isabella.

It is also obvious that registering the birth of a child without a forename was quite common, there are quite a few blank spaces on the returns.

John Moore and Isabella Elliott, Roshine/Roshin/Roshan, also appear to have had the following children:
Male born 1/3/1864
Male born 13/4/1866
Female (?Mary as above) born 23/12/1867
Charles born 4/12/1871
Margaret born 25/12/1872
John born 5/6/1874

Hope this helps,

Carol

Indeed, as you say, all listed!

Thinking about it, the female born 1867 is possibly not Mary as her age on both census would make her born about 10 years later, not a huge amount but significant, I think.
