William Edward HOARE and Martha FARRAR
« on: Sunday 16 October 16 09:26 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for further information about both of these ancestors: birthdates, places, parents, siblings; when and how they travelled to Australia, when/where their first child was born (and anything else of interest!)

The information I have so far:

William b. ABT 1859
in 1881 he was a printer compositor boarding in Luton with an Emma Lacey
in 1910 (from his daughter's marriage cert.) he was a printer
d. 1939 Chatswood, Sydney, Australia

Martha (aka Maimie) b. ABT 1861
d. 1947 Ryde, Sydney, Australia

I don't know where she was in 1881 census, or before.

They married in Luton in 1882

They travelled to Australia before 1885. They apparently had an infant son who died on the journey (according to a now-deceased granddaughter).

They had another son, Conrad, b. 1885? d. 1886, a dau. Greta (my great grandmother) b. 1889 Woolhara, and a son Reginald, b. 1892, d. 1921 in WW1.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

DO you have their marriage certificate - if so who was Martha's father, what were their occupations. Who were the witnesses. All might help track her down

In the mean time there's a bit of a possible on 1881, transcribed on Ancestry as Martha Foran, b Harefield Middlesex c1862. Boarding at 106 Chapel St with the Wallers and working as a straw hat machinist. Writing is a bit difficult so could be Farrer or a variation of

Possible baptism of the above Martha?

Martha Farrar
Born 26 Dec 1861
Baptism     23 Feb 1862, Harefield St Mary the Virgin
Father   Frederick Farrar, gardener
Mother    Edith Farrar

However, you'd need the marriage cert to compare fathers' names to confirm this is a strong possibility

Thank you Mabel,

No I don't yet have the marriage certificate; those details would be helpful.
Hmm, thanks for the possible lead on Martha. I can't confirm anything until I'm able to purchase the certificate I suppose...

Thanks Trish, that's a lot of information.

They seem likely possibilities, but I suppose I won't know if either the Martha or William in these indices are my relatives or not, until I get some sort of documentation.
