Edmund Pritchard
« on: Sunday 16 October 16 11:17 BST (UK) »
Edmund Pritchard and wife Mary were at Cefn y Brithdir farm in 1875 when a daughter Ann died aged 16 months (Y Tyst a'r Dydd 28 May 1875).  Edmund and Mary were not farming at Cefn y Brithdir in 1871 ( Miles Williams was there) and they had left the farm by the 1881 census.  I am keen to learn where they were residing in 1871, was Edmund farming elsewhere? and where they moved to on leaving the farm.  Can some please help locate them in 1871 and 1881.
Thank you

Hi Milliepede
The only information I have is in the opening topic; unfortunately no age or birthplace to help identify him.  The translation of the newspaper article is as follows: May 13, is sixteen months old, Ann, daughter of Edmund and Mary Pritchard, Cefn Brithdir, Gelligaer. She was buried in the churchyard of Llanfabon Thank you for the details of the 1871, but is this him, Mary is listed as sister? I presume from the newspaper snippet Mary was his wife.   With regards to the 1881 details; its possible he left farming and took up a different occupation but again I have nothing to say otherwise.

I see thanks for clarifying  :)

This Edmund was unmarried in 1871 so the Mary listed was an unmarried sister not his wife.

Both of those were Prichard though not Pritchard although would sound the same.

Is there a likely birth or baptism for Ann?  That might lead to other siblings we could look for.

Jun 1874
Ann Pritchard
Merthyr T

The only marriage for Edmund is Prichard to Mary Williams (other possible Edmund marriage too late)
Sep 1871
Merthyr T

so he would have been single in the 1871 census (if we have the right man)

There's a tree on Ancestry that links Edmund to the 1871 census found above

1861 the family is at "Cevan y Forest" - listed by Ancestry with the surname Richard. Edmund's place of birth written on the image as Llanelltid Vardra

1851 the family is at Cefn y Forest. Edmund is transcribed by Ancestry as Edward. Place of birth Lantwit "Bardre"

Parents David, of Gelligaer, and Mary of Llanfabon, both b c1816

Hi Mabel
Does the Edmund on tree have a occupation? the one fact we have is that he was at Cefn Brithdir farm; no evidence that he was farming but its a fair bet that he was.

Not prior to 1871 - David Prichard was a farmer of 200 acres.

1901 he's a stablekeeper at East Bute Dock - place of birth transcribed as Llantwitondre.  There are a number of family announcements in the papers for the death of Mary his relict in 1910, when he's described as of Bute Stables, East Dock. Her burial was in Llanfabon, despite living in Cardiff

Have just found this report of David Prichard's death - the court case mentioned was in 1883

I wonder if there was some sort of issue - when his brother William dies, he's not listed as attending the funeral
