Dated Port Elizabeth South Africa, 1940.

I'm hoping someone might be able to identify the army uniforms. This would help me identify the other person in the photo as everyone seemed to have served in a different branch of the armed forces. I have some uniform buttons that I am trying to connect to the correct family members.

Could be a South African Army,   or even  Australian  if their troop ship had made a temporary stop at Port Elizabeth.

I wonder why no one else has come forward yet to help this new member?

I suspect that the man wearing shorts is a South African, possibly a police officer

Thanks for the replies. My great grandfather is the man on the left the man on the right I have recently found out is his nephew Ted Erlank. They are both South African, Ted served with the South African artillery in the anti tank regiment. I will continue to try find out more about my great grandfather and what regiment he served with. Thank you for the help.

One or both of them may have been part of the South African Division who were part of the Allied Army in Egypt and North Africa.

Hi, a warm welcome from me also, the Bandoleer on the chest of Ted certainly fits with a member of the Artillery if he was in the British Army, but I'm not sure regarding the South African Artillery, although there is no reason they would not wear one, also that may well be an Artillery cap badge you can just see.
