Anybody in Kington and/or Lyonshall?
« on: Monday 17 October 16 12:09 BST (UK) »
and if so could you help?
I believe there are memorial tablets in Kington and Lyonshall parish churches to some ancestors of mine and if anybody in the area would be able to take a picture of them whilst passing it would be much appreciated.

In Kington:     James Crummer     Sarah Davies

In Lyonshall:     James Davies     Marianne (Davies)

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

If there is no response then Herefordshire FHS might be able to help;  they appear to have a project to record such items:

Good Luck!

If they have already recorded those areas and have members in the area, they might be happy to take photos for a small contribution to funds.

I should be able to do this but it won't be this week.

Experience has taught me that some are quite high up on the walls and hard to read so I will take a torch and binoculars, and might even remember to take the camera  ;D ;D.

Unlike another visit I will also remember to take the names I am looking for.

Mike,

That would be great if you could, thank you.
No rush as they're not going (I hope!) anywhere.

The good news is we went to Lyonshall this afternoon, when the church was rebuilt in the late 1800s
the memorials were relocated about 20ft high on the walls which makes it very hard to get a photo.

Both plaques are there and I have poor photos, meanwhile here is a bit of transcription to check they are the ones you want.

Sacred to the memory of James Davies of moor court in the county of Herefordshire second son of William Davies gent. of bronllys castle.
Born 1777, senior partner of the Kington and Radnorshire bank.

Mike

Marianne to follow.

James married Marianne in 1801 or 1804, cannot see clearly.

                      To the memory
                          Of Marianne

The wife of James Davies esquire of moor court
The youngest daughter of the late John Lewis esquire of harpton  court by his first wife Mary, the ???
Captain Charles Colby RN,  ?? Second cousin of sir Thomas Colby bart.

Harpton court is near Walton in Radnorshire, the Lewis's were a noted family in the area.
I will get to Kington next week, hopefully with more luck.
