Looking for name of a coal mine.
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 11:01 BST (UK) »
I know from the 1911 census that my grandfather Daniel Darlington was a deputy coal miner, he was living in Eckington.   I would like to know if there are any records  which could tell me what mine he was working in between 1906 and 1911.

Regards Norma.

Thank you for the web site you gave me it is very interesting but it doesn't answer my question of which mine my grandfather worked in, or  if there would be any records for it.

1910 the national union of deputies - the General Federation of Colliery Firemen -was formed - later became N.A.C.O.D.S

maybe there are records somewhere of membership which may give your man a mention

It is likley he would have lived fairly close to his place of employment.

This one is nearby, but I think there is another north of Eckington - and there may be others (I only had a quick look). Have a scroll around to see what you can find.

I presume he did not note his place of employment on the original census (sometimes people do) - also check the earlier census in case he or other family members are working at the same colliery.
