Despite the various transcriptions on searches the orig 1861 has their surname spelt as McDiarmid
Don't worry about spelling. There was no such thing as 'correct' spelling in the 19th century, and in any case it wasn't how the family spelled their names, even if they could write, which they might not have been able to do. It was how the person writing it down thought it might be spelled.

Still can't read Janet's  former profession is there such a thing as a treadle laster ?
Can you attach an extract to a message here and let us take a look at it?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I.m not worried about spelling
Just trying all possibilities on searches their are lots of McDairmid variations

But nothing is coming up for Agnes and Duncan's births with father John mother Janet on SP
Between 1820 and 1830 in Glasgow or Lanarkshire
Maybe something will turn up on family search I can have a look at weekend

Not made any progress learning to clip either tho can download whole documents now

Coming back to this as it's more about Janet RENFREW. I  have no DNA matches to MacDermid s before her son Duncan or to DUNLOP'S her mother's name so suspect soldier John MACDERMID. May not have been the children's birth father which may explain why she used her maiden name in 1841

Also have found alternative parents for her Thomas RENFREW. And Janet SMITH
