William Kitchen & Susan Woollage

Hello

I have found a marriage of my ancestors Susannah Kitchen to John Reynolds in Roydon, near Diss Norfolk in 1811. She was bapt in Diss in 1789. Parents William & Susan Kitchen nee Woollage according to the photo of the record.
I have found the images of both the bapt and marriage above.

I cannot find a marriage of William and Susanna Woollage I have looked in Norfolk and Suffolk records for Findmypast, Ancestry and Familysearch to no avail. There is a William married to a Susan Wallis but no marriage there either. Please could someone come up with where I try next or is that another broken twig in my family tree.

The marriage you refer to Susannah Kitchen to John Reynolds 1811.
The bride was a minor married with consent of father William Kitchen.
If she was baptized 1789 she would have been 22 years old no need for her fathers permission.

Yes amondg I thought she was old enough to marry without her father's consent too. As there was a baptism in Diss itself, which is a couple of miles from the church she married in and that is the only Susannah Kitchen in that area with a father William I believe it is my Susannah. The marriage is correct as I can follow the family forwards to me. I will keep in mind there may be another Susannah.

Thank you very much for the link to the marriage bond, which I should have thought of. Old age. I have printed it so I will study it to see what else I can discover, if anything.

William Kitchen and Susan nee' Wallis had a child baptized in Diss as follows
William son of William Kitchen and Susan nee Wallis spinster was born12 April 1788 baptized privately 13th April.
The transcription for Susanna born 10 October baptized privately 14th, has mother as Woollage however if you look at the original entry its Willace. A variation of Wallis.
William Kitchen to Susan Wallis appears to be the correct marriage.
There are no other families by the name of Kitchen in Diss during that time period.

Thank you very much for confirming what I suspected, that is that Susan Woollage is Susan Wallis. I can now have another look and see what else I can find.

William Buried 27 Jan 1841 age 86, Widower, abode Parsonage Green

EDIT looks like right Burial 1841 for William as Son William is buried same month;
William Kitchen age 52, 31 Jan 1840, Son of William Kitchen/Susanna Wallis.
Abode Parsonage Green
Notes, Father William is late ( I presume deceased)

That would make Susanna Wallis quite a bit older than William Kitchen given her Burial age.

Thank you very much for the info.

I am not a local to Norfolk having been born in Berkshire and recently retired here but I only live a few miles from what was Parsonage Green so a trip to the churchyard is called for. I pass the church ever time I shop in Diss. How strange to discover I am back where some of my ancestors came from. I fell in love with the area so it must be in my genes!!

Hi Wendy,

Its amazing when things add up and you find a connection to places you love.

I always had a affinity with Scotland and my Family thought we had no Scottish Roots until starting our Family Tree.
It was a a surprise to find our Reid line although in Northumberland came from Berwickshire.
