Burial Info. Baby or Adult
« on: Sunday 23 October 16 21:19 BST (UK) »
I have a record of a Samuel Preece being christened in Dilwyn in 1801 and no other record that matches him after that.  There are several Samuel Preece's but all traceable to others born elsewhere.
I have found a record of a Samuel Preece being buried at Dilwyn in 1802, with no other info on the record.
Is there anyway of determining if the person buried at Dilwyn in 1802 is a baby or an adult from Parish records?
The record just lists a name, date of burial and location.
With the age being not recorded, would that indicate an older person?

Robert

Maybe the actual Parish Register will have an age?
I.E. rather than looking at a transcription.

Is the burial record you have from the NBI?

OK thanks.  I thought maybe if they were under a certain age maybe the age was left out.

Who would have that register now?

The Transcription was by Herefordshire Family History Society but I'm not sure of what the process was according to the search.

The same source as the NBI entry which has no further details.  The info is transcribed from the actual parish register entry so presumably no age was shown on that entry

Yes Carole, it says National Burial Index for England & Wales Transcription.

Transcription Herefordshire Family History Society.

It's through Find My Past.

OK thanks.  Would that better indicate an older person if the Age was left out from the way records were kept in those times?

Just looking at Preece burials at Dilwyn St Mary. Out of 41 entries only 12 have ages shown.  3 entries have "inf" against them (infant)

So it would be very difficult to say whether the 1802 burial was an infant or an adult

Yes, I probably need to see the actual Transcript.  It sounds like infant etc should have been noted if Samuel died around 8-9 months old.

My Family Tree is very complete up to Samuel' brother.  From there very hard to trace with any accuracy.
I've compiled an extensive list of possibilities, so now I'm trying to knock out some of the possible siblings and parents.

What web site did you look up those burial records?  I'm using Family Search, Find My Past, My Heritage, Dusty Docs etc.
