Scanning a tiny photo
« on: Sunday 23 October 16 22:15 BST (UK) »
I have found a very tiny photo which must date from around 1920. It is approximately 3cm x 2 1/2cm.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to best resolution for scanning it to print.

The higher the better, 300dpi or larger if you can.  The better your scan the larger and better quality print you will be able to produce  ;)

Whern scanning go for the highest resolution your scanner will allow.  You can always reduce the resolution later if the file is too large.

Modern scanners will usually allow you to choose the resolution, but you might have more choice (and so get better results) using software on your computer).

Hope this helps

For a photo that small I would recommend you scan it at least 1200dpi or even higher if your scanner allows.

Thank you all for your advice, I have a new printer and after checking have discovered it scans at a higher resolution than my old one, so am now just going to see what happens with the tiny photo.

Scanned the tiny photo at 1200dpi, tidied it up a little with Photoshop and it is perfect. Not pixelated at all and have now printed a great 6" x 4" photo.  :)
So thanks again for tips.
