Clones Parish Records
« on: Tuesday 25 October 16 05:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if someone knew how to get in contact with someone who can check the 'original' (or copy of) the original Parish birth/baptism records from Clones?

I am looking for a Dorkus Ferguson, father William Ferguson, from Clonagun, Fermanagh. I can find a Darky Ferguson registered in 1838 in Clones, Monaghan (Church of Ireland), living in Clonagan, but I need to see if the name 'Darky' (recorded on databases) is actually correct. My suspicion is the name Darky, is in fact Dorkus, but I need to see a copy of the original record to prove it.

Any idea who to speak to regarding trying to get a copy from the Clones Parish Records.

According to my guide to Church of Ireland records, the originals are in the Representative Church Body (RCB) library in Dublin. There is also a microfilm copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast (MIC1/248). If you can get to either location in person, then I think the records are free to view (they are certainly free in PRONI). If you can’t get there in person, I am not sure whether the RCB library will make a copy for you (you would need to ask them) but PRONI normally will, for a fee, payable in advance.

Thanks Elwyn,

I'm looking at the RCB now, and requesting a research of the name Darky Ferguson. Thanks for the help.

They should be on FamilySearch, they go back to mid 1600's
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Thanks hallmark,

I have the 'database' record from FamilySearch, I'm after getting a copy of the original record.
