St Giles, Carburton
« on: Thursday 27 October 16 14:41 BST (UK) »
Any ideas as to where I might be able to view the original records for St Giles, Carburton - a minuscule village on the SW edge of Clumber Park?

I'm looking to confirm the baptism/parentage of Hannah JEPSON who was baptised there on 4 August 1822. There is a transcript on Ancestry but the parents are Tobias and Susan whist all other references to the family seem to refer to Tobias and Susannah. Maybe simply mistranscribed but the original might sort it.

Thanks
Ray

I would try Nottinghamshire archives?
Or the Nottinghamshire Family History Society?

Hi Ray

Tobias Jepson married Susannah Wells 13.10.1807 at Misterton All Souls

There are 9 children baptised to them at Carburton - 8 of them say Susannah and just one says Susan.

Hope this helps

But it looks like she was buried as Susan

Susan Jepson aged 83 buried 22.4. 1870 at Misterton
Tobias Jepson buried 14.12. 1856 at Misterton (notes say aged 45 or 75)

The names Susan and Susannah and Susanna were used interchangeably?! :-\
Certainly that's true in my tree! ;D

Thanks KGarard - I couldn't get any response from the Nott. Archives website yesterday but it seems to be back up again today. I was wondering whether the archives might still be held at the church as Genuki seems to be totally silent on where they might be.

Thanks all for your contributions, its good to have someone else confirm that I'm on the right track.

So far, I have Hannah, John, Mary, Henry, Susanna and Elizabeth as potential children of Tobias and Susan/Susannah - I only reached this "root" yesterday.

Carol - have you had sight of original registers (or copies)? ... and, if so, where did you access them. Ancestry and FindMyPast seem to have limited info - just transcriptions from what I've been able to find
