Ballachulish/Glencoe
« on: Saturday 29 October 16 21:37 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for date of marriage of Mary Mcinnes and Sam mcColl, probably abt 1907.Also, where would I find parish records and also record of burials, I'm also looking for the grave of Marys sister Annie and her husband William Frederick Blake who died early 1900s. Thought they were on Eilean Munda but not shown on island map of graves or found when I visited. Is there a list of graves at St Johns? Last question, is all area records ie census etc online?

Hi Elaine

The marriage between Mary and Samuel looks to have taken place a little later, in 1912. The ref is
1912 - 525/3 6 - Glencoe and Ballachulish

You can view the image of the marriage online on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Censuses are available to view on SP on the link above. There are also a number of transcriptions for the Scottish censuses up to 1901, some free and others paid for. The Scottish 1911 census is only avaible online via SP.

Online parish records are only available in the main via Scotlands People. The general cut off is 1855 for these although some records, such as Roman Catholic parish records, are available for later periods for example. If you are looking for death details from the 1900s, you should be able to view a death cert on SP, however, these do not contain burial details.

Hopefully you will get further advice on the burial records on this thread.

Hi Monica, thanks for that,That's one mystery solved. Will re-register with SP later and also call the museum in Glencoe and ask them about graves in St Johns but I'm sure theyre on island in grave with overgrown slab and that's why we have no record of it. Cheers

There could also be no remaining stone left over time (or there was not stone in the first place due to cost). Burial Registers are probably the best search I think.
