Shaftesbury Burials
« on: Sunday 30 October 16 00:27 BST (UK) »
Is anyone able to look up a burial in Shaftesbury for me. I am trying to find the burial of Frances Thomas who died in Shaftesbury (Holy Trinity parish I think) in 1845 or 1846. She was the wife of James Thomas and widow of Samuel Durnford who died in 1776. Frances and James had two children (that I am aware of) - Louisa (born 1786) and Mary (born 1791). By her first husband (Samuel) Frances had eight children with the first being born in 1759. Samuel was born in 1730  and I suspect Frances might have been born around the same time.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who can help.

Thanks

Matt

can I suggest some links you may not know about....>

https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/596559?availability=Family%20History%20Library

https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Shaftesbury_St_James,_Dorset_Genealogy

[the 2nd suggests the burials may not be filmed]  so one may have to contact the local fh group....
however, I have noticed Shaftesbury materials are sometimes filed under Wiltshire....

It looks like St Peter wasnt filmed........

one may have to contact the county archives to see where the register is for the parish , and to what condition or if microfisched by archives....

I found British Newspaper Archives did upon occasion have "in memory or burial notices" for Shaftesbury......

I would also try google earth [enter Shaftesbury Cemeteries] to obtain list of graveyards etc then so what local government databases etc there are.....

[[[[ if anyone finds out the answer here ... please post up cos I too need to find folk in that area, thx]]]]

thats as far as I got with the same problem...... good luck

Are you saying that Frances was 115/116 when she died?

I am confused if she had Children from 1759 with Samuel Durnford and then Children Louisa 1786/Mary 1791 with James Thomas she would be 55/60 when both those 2 Children were born?

Trish :)

1841 Census Frances Thomas is age 64, birth c 1777

I did notice the Marriage and she was a Widow;
1785 James THOMAS of Holy Trinity & Frances DURNFORD Widow were married 18-Jun

But I would be unsure she was a Widow of Samuel Durnford.
