Welcome to RC Bonnie

I have had a quick look to see what I can on this family and cannot see an 1872 marriage which should show the father's names of the couple and be a good place to start

Where did you source the marriage date? do you have the exact date or official certificate?
This will help you

Possibly family on 1901 census - LINK

and on the 1911 census - LINK

Birth of Samuel ERVIN 1896 (#466) - LINK
www.irishgenealogy.ie will allow you search for all the records but the name maybe ERWIN or IRWIN or even IRWINE

Staying with the family myluck! found in the 1901 census- here's the location of Ballyhutherland- between Ballymena and Ballymoney (not near Antrim town)-
https://www.townlands.ie/antrim/kilconway/grange-of-dundermot/ballyhutherland/
which gives the family-
William James Irwin (c1839) m. Ann (c1852) is Irwin also her maiden name?
1. Mary (c1876)
2. William James (c1880)
3. Thomas (c1882)
4. Donaugh (c1884)
5. Lizzie (c1888)
6. Hessie (c1890)
7. Agnes (c1892)
8. Jennie/Janey (c1894)
9. Samuel Hugh (c1897)

By 1911 the family are living in Frosses-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Dundermot/Frosses/120117

The 1911 census says married 39 years (should be treated as a guide) and they had 13 children (9 living).

Can’t find William and Nancy’s marriage on the GRONI site but the civil indexes on Ancestry have a possible match for 1872 Ballymena. Volume 6, page 177. William Irvin and Nancy Irvin are both on that page so may have married each other. You would probably need to order a copy of the certificate to see for certain.

Thank you so much everyone  for your help . yes Nancy's maiden name was Erwin ,I hadn't seen proof til now .on the birth record . I also have the passanger list for Alfred ,stating Agnes as mother . I only had the marriage date from the census forms . Most of the info I have on them is from the 1901 & 1911 census. My Mother was adopted & is now passed away ,always wanting to know her biological family .

If you think that this is the correct family and that the birth of Samuel is your grandfather
To find out more I would order the marriage record suggest by Elwyn Soutter

This is the link for ordering - http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx
They only accept applications by post or fax but will email the result!

You do not need a PPS (Personal Public Service) number
At Date of marriage put 1872 Q1 V6 P177
At Place of marriage put Ballymena Civil District

Are you trying to find out more about your ancestors or descendants of this family?
Once you have the fathers's names from the marriage certificate, if it is correct, you will be able to work back; working forward will be more difficult due to privacy laws.
