searching for great grandparent information- ROSENBAUM / SMEETS
« on: Sunday 30 October 16 03:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am searching for information on great grandparents born in area of Limburg, Netherlands
ROSENBAUM, Anna Catherina born in Pannesheide circa 1885, died in Kerkrade, Netherlands circa 1933.
Was married to SMEETS, Jan Jacobus
We are trying to find information about either of their families.
We know they had 4 or 5 children, who were raised in an orphanage after death of mother.

As we are just learning to search, any information, pointers,  or leads would be appreciated.

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

I would try the Dutch website www.wiewaswie.nl/en/home
That URL will take you to the English pages!

I was not able to find a marriage or a birth for this couple in The Netherlands.  Johan Jacob Smeets and Anna Catharina Rosenbaum were probably married in Germany. Anna died in 3 April 1922 aged 37 in Kerkrade, The Netherlands and according to Anna's death certificate she was born in Pannescheide, Germany. Her parents were unknown. At this stage I am not able to find a birth or death certificate for Johan Jacob in The Netherlands. The couple did have the following 2 children born in Kerkrade (in all probability there were others born in Germany)
Gertrud Smeets born 20/9/1907 in Kerkrade.
Willem Smeets born 6/8/1909 in Kerkrade.

Hello,
I just came across your page and read that for my grandmother Anna Cathrina Smeets-Rosenbaum. She died on the 3 of april in 1922 37 years of age. She was married to Johannes Jacobus Smeets born 21 of april 1874. He died in 1963 89 years of age in Sittard, Limburg, Netherlands. You were right they indeed had 5 children:
Gerda Hogenboom-Smeets born 1907 Kerkrade,Limburg,Netherlands. Died 1961 54 years ,Oshawa, Ontario, Canada she was married to Hendrikus Igidius Josephus. (Harry) Hogenboom.
Willem Smeets born 6 august 1909 kerkrade,Limburg,Netherlands died 27 august 1977, Kessel, peel en maas, Limburg (he comitted suicide)
Josephine.(Jo) Hermans born Smeets died in Antwerp, Belgium
Maria De Zeeuw-Smeets born in kerkrade, Limburg, Netherlands died in Genk,Belgium
Elisabeth (Els) Strijthagen-Smeets born 8 november 1918, Kerkrade 98 years old, she is my mother and she's still alive. If i'm correct one of these people has to be your grandmother or grandfather. Anna Catharina and Johannes Jacobus married in Aachen,Germany. At the moment we don't now either who her parents are. I'm very curious to know who you're grandparents are, because by chance I came across this page and I didn't know I had family in the UK.

Kind regard,
L4a

Hi,
My friend wants to know if you are willing to talk to him.
He is the great-grandson of Anna Catherina, and his mother is the daughter of Gerda.

He is quite anxious to make a connection with you.
