Maria Larson b abt 1804 Buckingham
« on: Sunday 30 October 16 14:14 GMT (UK) »
Edward Goodyer married Maria Meaden widow on 1 may 1845 in Broadwater nr Worthing. Her father was George Larson. Maria had previously been married to David Meaden also in Sussex. On censuses Maria gives her pob as Buckingham and year of birth varies from 1803 to 1805.
I have been unable to find a Maria Larson born in the right place or time, nor any Larsons in Buckingham. The only George Larson of the right sort of age is a servant in London in 1841 and disappears by subsequent censuses. This George was not born in county (Middx).

Can anyone help find Maria's baptism please.

Hi!

There is a Mary (or Maria) Larson b.1804 in Paston, Northamptonshire to George and Ann Larson. Buckingham is near the borders of Northamptonshire. Could this be your Maria?

There is also a sister 'Sarah Larsson' in 1801.

No Larsons(and variants) at all in the BucksFHS - Buckingham transcripts CD.

Place of baptism isn't always the place of birth.

I would suggest a baptism search via the BucksFHS web site, and possibly a marriage search for George Larson in Bucks.

Paston, Northants seems a longish way from Buckingham, but people traveled a lot more than we realise.

Thank you both for looking for Maria. I haven't been able to find a likely marriage for George or a death either. Of course she may have been illegitimate and made him up.

I've just searched Buckingham Pr's again, just by using the christian name of Maria, and year of birth, and I think I've found your lady.

Baptism - 21 Aug 1803- Maria, daughter of George & Elizabeth SARSON.

What do you think. ;)

That looks very likely, thank you.

I have only seen transcripts of the two marriages. There are two transcripts for her 2nd marriage as Maria Meaden to Edward Goodyer and one gives her father as George Sarron, so it could be that the S looks like an L and the name was read as Larson, but should be Sarson.

I've just found an Elizabeth Sarson age 85 (b abt 1776) farmer's widow b Buckingham and her unmarried daughter Ann Sarson age 51 b Yarlington? Hants in 1861. They're living in Felpham (the place where Maria's first marriage was) So could be Maria's mother and sister.

In 1851, Elizabeth is working as a housekeeper still widowed, can't find Ann.

And a George Sarson buried on 17 dec 1845 at Broadwater by Worthing. birth year abt 1774.

So it looks like it fits together. The family moved from Bucks to hants and then Sussex. Now to find George and Elizabeth in 1841

I would highly recommend you get the actual 1845 Goodyer/Meaden marriage cert to get a bit more information.  Witnesses and occupation of father etc.
