Pettie/Pattie Family in Berwick

My earliest Pattie ancestor was a William Pattie (a weaver) who married an Elizabeth Collins in Northumberland in 1789. I have tried to locate his birth in England to no avail however have noticed a William Pettie born in 1771 at Berwickshire, Scotland. I am wondering whether this is the same person even with the slight spelling change! His father was entered as a 'Shon Pettie'. I cannot find anything else about this family group so am seeking any information about them. Any information is much appreciated, thanks Cheers Rob
