1869 Saundby Nottinghamshire help please.
« on: Sunday 06 November 16 13:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I am looking for some info after 1891 for a Thomas W Wright. He was born about 1869 according to the census, in Saundby Nottinghamshire. His parents were Thomas Wright and Sarah Goulding.
In the 1871 census they were living in Saundby he was 2. In the 1881 census he was with his parents and siblings aged 12 living in Everton Nottinghamshire, in the notes for Thomas it is written that he is an Imbecile. In 1891 he was 22 still with his parents and his notes on the census it says he is bad of sight and lame. After 1891 I cannot find him anywhere, not even a death appears. I have his parents in 1891 living in walkeringham notts but no sign of their son Thomas who would have been 32ish. His father didn't die till 1939 and his mother Sarah died in 1914. Would he have gone into an institution do you think as he clearly wouldn't have been able to look after his self, if so why is there no death registration for him.
Thanks in advance

His birth was 1868 and he was Thomas William Wright www.freebmd.org.uk

If he went into an institution, his name may not appear on census entries as many in asylums were just shown by their initials

Any institution may not have been in Notts so his death would be registered outside Notts

Did his father leave a will?  If so - there may be a mention of Thomas

Information on the 1911 census for parents would indicate if son Thomas was still alive or not so might be worth checking that  :)

To try to help with searches, these seem to be the baptisms of the children of this family:

Thomas W bapt 2.5.1869  Saundby
George             31.7.1870  Saundby
Annie                18.2.1872  Saundby   (died Sept 1873 in Gringley)
Frederick           1.11. 1873  Gringley on the Hill
Florence Annie    7.3.1875   Gringley
Charles              1.4.1877    Lound
Ernest            12.10.1879   Lound   (died Aug 1880 Lound)
James             28.12.1880   Everton  (died aged 4 days - abode given as Harwell, buried Everton)
Frank               1.1.1882     Everton
Helen                5.7.1885    Walkeringham   (I think she was registered as Ellen and probably died in 1886))
Lily                   6.2.1887     Walkeringham
Albert               2.12.1888       ditto
Henry (Harry)    20.12.1891      ditto
Rose                 4.3.1894         ditto

(there's also a Joseph inbetween Frank and Helen, according to the 1891, born Sturton - le Steeple, but I can't see his baptism. Note that 1891 gives Frank's place of birth as Yorkshire though the baptism was above).

It might be worth looking at Thomas W's siblings to see if any of them took him in. I'd also check for him under the name William.

Hi all
According to the 1911 census Thomas Wright and wife  Sarah had 15 children, 9 still living and 6 dead so not sure if Thomas their son was still alive ill have to have a closer look.
Annie 65115 thanks loads for that info, there are some childrens names I didn't have, where did you get this info please as I'm struggling to find any births of the children on Ancestry at all. Carol I will check this link out thanks a lot x

There are probably 4 deaths then before 1911 from the list Annie has provided so we need to find 2 more.  If Thomas isn't one of them then chances are he was still alive somewhere in 1911.

Children on census with parents is a good start then if any are missing check for a death or them elsewhere.  Bit tricky with so many children to follow but worth a try  :)

Albert               2.12.1888       ditto

No Albert with the family in 1891 so he could be another one that died.

Possible death Jun 1890 Gainsbro'
Wright Albert age 1

Florence Annie    7.3.1875   Gringley

Believe she is still alive in 1911 - married William Clark in 1896.

Rose still alive also - there is a family tree with her on but unfortunately only 2 siblings listed.
