Ord and Yonderton of Auchline - where are they please?
« on: Sunday 06 November 16 14:11 GMT (UK) »
I have ancestors, surname Cran, who were farmers living in Ord and Yonderton of Auchline in the mid 19th century. Can anyone tell me if these are the names of farms or villages please and where they are located. I think they must be somewhere near Rhynie as this is where the family originated.
Many thanks. Heather.

Insch or Clatt parish Aberdeenshire I think for Auchlyne. Ord, Rhynie as you say.

Yonderton of Auchlyne is easy http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1271191

Ord isn't quite so easy as there are several places called Ord, but try

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you for the links. I have found the family at Upper Ord so I think the farm in the first picture could well be the correct place.
