Yes, Godparents.
Mmm not sure about Edward's name, people on the deciphering board might be worth asking, also a check for other workhouse births to see if they are people who work for the workhouse and do this regularly.

I think they are on number 2166 as well

It is interesting, although I'm not sure how useful it is that Anne was still using O'Brien when she married.
I wonder does that mean her mother never married, or at least not until Anne was past an age when she would change her surname to a step father's name.
