Where was Martha in 1911?
« on: Tuesday 08 November 16 12:07 GMT (UK) »
My great grandmother's sister Martha Belfield had a chequered history. She had at least two children out of wedlock, then married the brother of her employer when she was 6 months pregnant.
Born 16 Feb 1854 Longnor Staffs to Joseph Belfield and Mary Bradbury. Son Benjamin born 1876 Longnor (father not named) Married 1882 in Ashton Under Lyne to Richard Finney, brother of Thomas who farmed Blake Edge, Fairfield Buxton. Richard died in 1890 and Martha was publican of The Bulls Head in Monyash Derbyshire in 1891 census.
In London Gazette July 22 1893 she was named in "Receiving Orders"  Address Thornheyes House, London Rd Buxton.
In London Gazette 1900 30 May 'Notice of Dividends" was posted against her name.
In 1901 widowed Martha is at 9 Rock Terrace Buxton.
Martha died 11 Aug 1920 and is buried with her husband Richard in a fine tomb in Monyash churchyard.
But where was she in 1911?  Cannot trace her at all. She wasn't with any of her children. Can anyone help me with missing piece of the jigsaw, please?

Sadly we cannot transcribe the 1911 census due to copyright laws.  :'(

Thanks, Rosie. I did find Rock Terrace in 1911 census and Martha wasn't there.

Hi,

Martha is not in derbyshire 1911, she also gives a different date of birth.

In 1901 she has a son Tom Finney born Bakewell who is with her 1911, he does not give Bakewell as his place of birth

Suggest you search for her giving her place of birth but no date of birth and no County of residence.

Or try a search for Tom Finney, without date of birth, as his has been transcribed incorrectly.
