Why isn't he on IrishGenealogy ?
« on: Wednesday 09 November 16 02:01 GMT (UK) »
I have a birth certificate for a Thomas George FORDE, b 15 Jan 1914 in Drumcannon.  I can't read the first District listing (Starts with D-Dawsongrove?) but the Superintendent's District is Clones, in Monaghan.

However, I can't any sign of him when searching the IrishGenealogy.ie civil records.

I'm relatively new to Irish genealogy.  Am I doing something wrong?

Birth, Marriage and Death results for Forde of Clones

Displaying results 1 - 23 of 23. irishgenealogy    http://www.rootschat.com/links/01itl/

Birth, Marriage and Death results for Ford of Clones

Displaying results 1 - 7 of 7.    http://www.rootschat.com/links/01itm/

Online are The indexes to Births over 100 years old, the indexes to Marriages over 75 years old and the indexes to Deaths over 50 years old.

BUT originally all records were put up in error!

The site was pulled in 2014 with   Births over 100 years old, the indexes to Marriages over 75 years old and the indexes to Deaths over 50 years old..... so only up to 1913 was put back up and hasn't been updated since

Thanks everyone.  I think I understand why the Clones registration district is actually Cootehill!

Civil Registration Districts, or more correctly Superintendent Registrar's Districts, were used as the areas for civil registration of Births, Marriages & Death. These districts were based on the 138 Poor Law Unions which had been set up by the Irish Poor Law Act of 1838, with several further, about 30, being added soon after. Each of these districts was further divided into sub-districts based on the ~720 Dispensary districts, which had been established soon after the Poor Law Unions. These were referred to as Registrar's Districts.

If you go to http://www.swilson.info/regdistmap.php  and put in Monaghan you'll get the 7 Districts plus the areas each covered.

Clones Reg District is Clones Reg District

Cootehill Reg District is Cootehill Reg District

Well no. On the certificate the Reg District is Clones, but the certificate is found on Cootehill.

There is no mention of Clones.... that's why you couldn't find him under Clones and why he's found under Cootehill.
