Hi Cosmac & Sandra

Thank you for being so helpful and generous of your time.

Over the years I've managed to find information on Clara's parents & brothers but very little on her.
I've just dug out all the things I've collected and see that the Holmes' were buried(?) in Fairview Cemetery,Niagara. I wonder if Clara is also there, if she remained in the area.

I will contact the library and see if they can give me any info from Clara Shasby Holmes obit.

I found online the archives of Morse & Sons Funeral Home (Niagara Falls) which had some Holmes details and also John Shannon Green & parents (but no Clara).
On Johns entry it says 'ordered by Last Post Fund'! Do either of you know anything about this? Might it suggest he was alone or had no money?
So grateful for any advice/help you can give.

Thank you once again
Andrea

Mixing up two families.
There was a Norman John Holmes, s/o John Holmes and Fanny Park, born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1899.  He served with the CEF in WWI and in 1923 married Eve Kathleen Grant.  The burial documents for this man show his widow as Eva Lee Holmes and his stone to be delivered to the cemetery in California that Sandra posted a link to.

Clara's brother was born in Ramsbottom on 08 Aug 1899 according to a border crossing document in 1950.  He gave his mother as Clara.  Full name Norman Johnson Holmes.  He married Mary Shelley in 1923 in same area as Norman John.  1958 Voters lists show Norman and Mary resident in Niagara Falls.

The two men had much in common - names, close birth years, death dates and place of residence.

You're correct with Norman Johnson Holmes, Cosmac.
The family, apart from daughter Clara, came from the UK. Typically, it's Clara I'm trying find out about! She's proving to be elusive.

Sandra, thanks for the link to the Last Post Fund - interesting! Would I be able to obtain his death certificate to see if it may give me any clues re Clara?

The obituary for Clara's brother might mention his sister.
Death certificates are issued to close family members.  If you look up Service Ontario you will be able to find out if you qualify
