Russian ancestor's records???
« on: Thursday 10 November 16 18:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi :),

I am trying to find records relating to ancestor's who emigrated to the UK from Russia in the early 1900s.

Harris Horne (born approximately 1861) was born somewhere in Russia (one of his children was born in Bessarabia so they were around that area) and married his wife Sarah Iseefichmon in approximately 1886.

Before coming to the UK, they had 4 children, Hannah (1889), Rosa (1892), Aaron (aka Harry) (1895) and Golda (1899).

We think the pre-anglcised surname was HOHN, or HOREN, but not certain.
I have no information on them before the came to the UK, so any help/advice would be appreciated!!

Thank you!
Martha :)

Looking at both your threads, I think these could be the British Naturalisation papers of Barnett's brother Harry, as seen in the census in Wales.

The records themselves cannot be seen online. But you could order a copy from the National Archives, as they may provide some background on the family.

I have never seen naturalisation papers, so if you decide to go for them, Martha, I'd love to know what information they contain.

Looks a useful resource, nannyjan.

Hi both, sorry for the late reply, it's been a busy week! Thank you for the link, they are his naturalisation papers (I looked at them when I went to Kew in the summer!)

In terms of the information they contain, there is a police report giving various details about him (why he wants to be naturalised, character etc) and a form he has filled in giving various basic details (name etc). It was definitely really interesting to see, especially as some was in his own handwriting!

So do they not give his town of origin, or at least a clue as to which part of Russia the family came from? The information given in these papers is variable, but this would normally be on the front page of the Memorial, along with his parents' names.
