St Giles in the Fields Parish Registers
« on: Friday 11 November 16 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone know whether there are any transcripts available or if either findmypast or Ancestry have plans to upload the records?

There’s some online for the 1750s courtesy of Julie Dovey, but I am looking for earlier records.

There are no transcripts available for these earlier dates. The registers have only recently been deposited by the church, and I understand they will be digitised by Ancestry in due course. Meanwhile, the only access is at London Metropolitan Archives. The film is very poor in places, but it is usually possible to inspect the original registers in cases of difficulty.

With the last update (or even earlier) Ancestry appear to have added images for St Giles in the Fields, Holborn (borough of Camden). Good luck if you have some ancestors mentioned there.

Thank you for the notice, mutchall.  I think they came with the recent update.

Great news after a long, long wait.

Thanks for the update.  Can someone post the link? I am presuming they haven't been transcribed?

They are part of the London Parish Record collections which have been on Ancestry for years.

I am restricting my searches with "St Giles in the Fields, Holborn" (as Exact) in the keyword field.  I can't promise every record has exactly that string, however.

Yes, they are Indexed but with the normal caveats that apply to indexing on commercial sites.

St. Giles in the Fields

"Until recently, the parish held the majority of its historic collection on site. After consultation with staff at LMA, it was decided to transfer the archive and in March 2014, over 13 metres of archives were deposited dating from 1561 to 2008. The bulk of the collection comprises parish registers from 1561, as well as a parish “domesday book” of 1624, various charity records, photographs, printed material and archives relating to 26 West Street. An additional baptism register (1880-1922) for Christ Church Chapel of Ease, Holborn was also included.

Cataloguing of the parish registers is now complete and researchers are able to access these for research although many registers are only available on microfilm to reduce damage to the originals. When consulting LMA’s online catalogue, please use collection reference: P82/GIS. The remaining uncatalogued records are available for consultation by prior appointment: accession reference B14/053.

Researchers of the parish may also be interested in the related collection, Saint Giles in the Field Parochial Charities, reference: LMA/4542.
