Thomas SNR being a butcher was just something my Aunty has said, that he did as well as Thomas Jnr. He was listed as a driver on his marriage cert and a carter on his death cert though.

That 1954 voting roll I suspect was a mistake it should have said Thomas Jnr butcher as he lived with his mother Sarah Louisa until her death. My father visited them just before she died.

Yes Muriel Annie was one of the daughters.

Electoral Roll 1954  possible explanation -

Thomas LANE,  m. 1906, a labourer, is dead by 1954.
His son Thomas LANE b. 1907, a butcher, is Thomas Snr because he has a young adult son, Thomas.

Thomas Jnr never married or had kids.

No i viewed the probate details for Thomas online and it lists him being a carter.

I was thinking I might order the death cert online today though. Might give more info.

I misunderstood ... thought you'd meant Thomas Snr.  ;D

*  Yes, (given the ease with which VIC BDM images can be downloaded), I think it's a good idea to purchase the death record.

The LANE - SCOTT marriage certificate, 1906, would also be useful to get. It would ask, of bride and groom, birthplace, age, occupation, name of mother, name and occupation of father, address now, usual address, names of witnesses.  Probably a church service, so location and denomination of church would be useful.

Thomas is young at marriage so he has likely arrived from NZ with another person. The details on the marriage certificate might help to locate other family members.
