Hello
Just seen the thread, I am connected with this family, very exciting!

Rev John was my gg uncle who married my grandfather David Arthur Levingston and Annie Ellis in Cork according to our family bible.  I am aware of the Carlow/Wexford/Wicklow connections with the Rothwell, Deacon and Power families there. According to family legend, the Levingstons came originally from Scotland and I am trying to fathom this out.

Would be most interested in sharing information with anyone who has connections to the above.

Louise

Hi Louise
I will have to figure out how we are connected. I am actually over in Edinburgh this weekend and had thought of going out to Levingston.i have always heard same as yourself that our family possibly originates from same but probably too far back to prove. Will post more when I get home .

Hi Louise. I have the marriage of David Arthur Levingstone born 19 June 1885 in Newbridge House near Kildavin , Co Carlow to Annie Ellis born 2 August 1880 , Currabeha ( Currahee ) Dunmanway. David Arthur the son of William Levingstone and Eliza Jane Rothwell and Annie the daughter of Robert Ellis and Eliza Sweetman. They were married 1st of March 1916 in Carrigtwohill Parish Church by Davids uncle the Revd John Levingstone who more than likely signed as witness as did an S W Ellis who i believe to be Samuel Ellis. Annie's brother.

The will that dathai posted the link to. Margaret Rothwell in this will was Margaret Deacon who married a William Rothwell. Her daughter Eliza Jane is the same Eliza Jane mentioned above married to William Levingstone and parents of David Arthur.. Her sister Susan Married Joshua Levingstone. Joshua Levingstone was an uncle of William who married Eliza Jane. Easy to get lost in the generations.

Hi John

I do agree. With the different lines, generations tend to blur especially with large families spanning 10/20 years. For instance, I have William Levingston of Ballyshancarragh and Phebe Scanlon's ten children starting with Elizabeth born in 1847 and ending with Mary Ann Levingston born in 1867.

The information you have above accords with what I have too so hopefully, where I have had to, my educated guesses will turn out right as well.  I am beginning to think though that I have a few people in the wrong generation but time will tell.

I did come across a George Levingston (not sure if he is brother of William Levingston, married to Phebe but that is what I have gone with), whose daughter, Elizabeth, married John Power.  Any connection?

Louise

You can narrow them down by wherever you think they would have registered.... Cork, Carlow etc
