Harrogate Home guard

looking for a look up, my father always talked about manning anti aircraft guns during the war. I know this was passed onto the home guard at some point.

My dad being 14 when the war broke out was evacuated to haltwhistle, but sometime after reaching an appropriate age ended up in harrogate working in a hotel doing silver service. He later joined the merchant Navy.

So could he have been a member of the home guard around harrogate/knaresborough area.

Thought I once read that they had to be 17 years or older for the Home guard.

There is a guide here for researching British army and government records for a person who served in the Home Guard, also known as the Local Defence Volunteers.

don't know the age but if 17 he could have joined 42/43 onwards. I have checked with the national archives.

The durham home guard is pretty well covered but Harrogate not so much. There is a website/group about the harrogate home guard but no joy.

Hoping other people from harrogate or home guard enthusiasts might have more sources.

Hello, this is WW2 Harrogate related.
I'm trying to trace family or friends of Bdr William Long who was sadly killed in action on 5th Jan 1945.
His fathers' name was Thomas and he lived on Cecil Street.
Any information would be very welcome.
