Bigamist marriage ??
« on: Monday 14 November 16 17:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi there , would any one know if bigamist marriages would be recorded in the registers ?? I have a friend who's grandfather apparently married in Nottingham after 1940 , he already had a wife in Wales , the gent concerned was caught and made to return to his first wife instead of facing jail !! We also believe there may have been children in the 2nd marriage.  Anyone know or have advice as to how I can find info regarding this , many thanks

Do you want to give us his name, or is it too common to do searches?

Hi thank you chempat, yes I have a name but no clarity on dates as yet , his name is Brinley Leyshon
Various spellings of Brinley ie brynley/ Brynly , seems he had two families , one in Wales and one in Nottingham, he was caught and charged so I'm hoping there is a record somewhere , up until 1950 it looks like he was definitely with his first wife as his last child was born 1950 , he died in 1966 back in neath s.wales so I'm assuming the deed took
Place within those 15 years it also been said that there were children of this second marriage so looking for them too , I just wondered if this 2nd marriage may have been scratched from the records ??
Thankyou for your reply

FreeBMD is showing marriages:

Sept qtr 1934, Swansea Registration District
Sept qtr 1950, East Glamorgan RD
Sept qtr 1967, Cardiff RD

As the parties might still be alive, and RootsChat has a no naming policy on living people I'll leave you to investigate the names involved.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Are you sure the second marriage was in Nottingham ?
There are news reports of a bigamist marriage by a Brinley Leyshon but it took place in Aberdeen in May 1942 and he was sentenced to 1 year in prison in Sept 1942 in Aberdeen.
He is said to be an ex member of the Pioneer Corps and a miner - ring a bell ?
Do you know the first wife name ?
